The key to success for all of your plantings is correct watering, the right amount at the right time. All plants need to be well watered until they are planted in the ground and must be watered deeply and thoroughly by hand immediately after planting. Use a hose or watering can as sprinkler systems and soaker hoses do not soak deeply enough.
Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings then water deeply and thoroughly. The goal is to encourage the plant’s roots to grow deep so they are better able to withstand dry spells in future seasons. Deep, thorough waterings will accomplish this goal, beautifying your garden with each watering. Don’t forget to keep watering your plants into the fall. They still need plenty of water even though the weather is cooler.
